Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission Unveils Ringside/Cageside Report
Available for the First Time in Digital Format
HARRISBURG, Pa., April 13, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Secretary of State Pedro A. Cortés today announced the availability of the recently updated Ringside/Cageside Report by the State Athletic Commission (SAC), now also offered in digital format for the first time.
"SAC and its executive director, Greg Sirb, work tirelessly with athletes and associated organizations to ensure the compliance and safety of all," said Secretary of State Pedro A. Cortés. "By revising the report and making it available online, we are making sure the latest safety information is at everyone's fingertips. We are also keeping in line with Governor Wolf's GO-TIME initiative to modernize government operations to reduce costs and improve services."
Last revised in 2011, the report provides safety articles related to the consumption of energy drinks, dangerous weight loss practices, as well the warning signs and required treatment for head trauma. The publication also includes recent information on licensing, event results and drug-testing reports.
The State Athletic Commission, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Department of State, regulates boxing, kickboxing, wrestling and Mixed Martial Arts in Pennsylvania. With over 350 licensed boxers and over 400 licensed professional and amateur mixed martial arts boxers, the Commission is among the top 10 in the nation. In 2016, the Commission sanctioned the third highest number of boxing events in the country.
"While the Commission is dedicated to providing premiere events for our loyal fans, our main goal is always the safety and health of all of our phenomenal athletes," Sirb said.
The work of the Commission is supported by SAC Chair Rudy Battle and Commissioners Joel Frank and Rick Steigerwald.
The Ringside/Cageside Report can be found online in PDF format.
