Pennsylvania Selects MJ Freeway to Implement Seed-to-Sale Cannabis Tracking System for New Medical Marijuana Program, the Second State to Adopt MJ Freeway's Platform
MJ Freeway, with subcontractor Oracle, to implement Pennsylvania contract, bringing together a cannabis software company and mainstream technology company
DENVER, April 20, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- MJ Freeway, the cannabis industry's leading provider of seed-to-sale traceability solutions, has been awarded the contract from the Pennsylvania Department of Health to implement Leaf Data Systems™ – a secure, web-based regulatory platform developed by MJ Freeway to enable governments to effectively and efficiently monitor compliance by licensed cannabis businesses. The Pennsylvania tracking platform will feature functionality by MJ Freeway's subcontractor Oracle, the leading provider of fully integrated and comprehensive cloud applications.
MJ Freeway pioneered seed-to-sale cannabis tracking in 2010 – the model on which Leaf Data Systems™ is based – and now provides tracking technology to cannabis businesses in 23 states, the District of Columbia, Canada, Europe, South America, and Australia. The Leaf Data Systems™ platform has already been implemented as the State of Nevada's cannabis traceability system. Seed-to-sale tracking ensures public, patient, and product safety through electronic data capture throughout the cannabis supply chain, including:
- Complete chain-of-custody for cannabis products to ensure product accountability and safety
- Reports and alerts to protect the public from unlawful diversion and identify where to strategically deploy enforcement efforts, saving regulators valuable time and resources
- Patient and medical professional registration technology that tracks registrations for patients, caregivers, and physicians, enabled through MJ Freeway's relationship with Oracle
"Implementing and sustaining a robust and capable cannabis electronic track-and-trace system is vital to ensuring a state's successful medical cannabis industry. We are eager for the Fall 2017 implementation of our system, which we have tailored to support the sophisticated medical cannabis market that is expected to expand in Pennsylvania," said Amy Poinsett, MJ Freeway's Co-founder and CEO. "It's a great privilege to serve the citizens of Nevada and now Pennsylvania in this important work. We're proud of the momentum we are gaining with our government offerings and will do everything in our power to help Pennsylvania regulators ensure this industry matures safely and responsibly."
Karen Murphy, Pennsylvania Secretary of Health, said, "This is an important step forward in ensuring that we can get medical marijuana to patients who desperately need it. This contract serves two important functions for the program: tracking medical marijuana from seed-to-sale; and creating a registry for patients, caregivers, and practitioners to participate in the program."
Under Pennsylvania's cannabis laws, an inventory tracking system is required to be used by all cannabis operators. System implementation will begin in October 2017 and is expected to be fully implemented in early 2018. The system will include in-depth training workshops to prepare cannabis operators for successful use. The companies have also engaged with Pennsylvania businesses to source local talent for on-site training, tier-one support and business analysis.
