Pennsylvania Secretary of State Postpones Tomorrow's Ballot Lottery
HARRISBURG, Pa., March 13, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Secretary of State Pedro A. Cortés announced today he is postponing the day for casting of lots for the position of candidates' names on the May 16 Primary ballots due to severe weather warnings.
The Pennsylvania Election Code grants the Secretary of the Commonwealth the authority to select the day for the casting of lots to determine ballot position for candidates who filed nomination petitions with the Department of State.
To ensure adequate time for candidates to receive notification of the new date for the casting of lots, the Secretary of the Commonwealth has moved the day for the casting of lots from Wednesday, March 15, to Friday, March 17 at 10:00 AM.
The "Ballot Lottery" will be held in the same location originally scheduled - Commonwealth Keystone Building, Commonwealth Meeting Center, 400 North Street, Harrisburg, PA 17120-0225.
For more information on the re-scheduled ballot lottery, please visit the Department of State's Running for Office webpage.
The predicted severe snowstorm is expected to cause road closures, interruptions to public transportation and hazardous travel conditions from Tuesday, March 14 into Wednesday, March 15. As a result, the Capitol Complex in Harrisburg, PA, has been closed, which includes the Keystone Building where ballot lottery is scheduled.
