Pennsylvania Physician, Carl A. Sirio, M.D., Newly Elected To AMA Board of Trustees

CHICAGO, June 15 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Carl A. Sirio, M.D., a critical care physician and internist from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania was elected today as a new member of the Board of Trustees of the American Medical Association (AMA), the nation's largest and most influential physician organization.

For over a decade, Dr. Sirio has been dedicated to improving the medical education system and the quality and safety of patient care.  He has served on the AMA Council on Medical Education for eight years and acts as chair to the Initiative to Transform Medical Education (ITME). Dr. Sirio has represented the AMA to the Liaison Committee on Medical Education, the Internal Medicine Residency Review Committee and the National Residency Matching Program.

Dr. Sirio played an instrumental role in creating the Pittsburgh Regional Healthcare Initiative, a group of physicians and hospitals from 40 institutions dedicated to improving patient care and safety.

Dr. Sirio graduated from Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Jersey. His term on the Board lasts four years.
