Pennsylvania Patient Safety Authority Welcomes New Clinical Director
The doctor from Children's Hospital of Philadelphia has a master's degree in patient safety
HARRISBURG, Pa., Sept. 9, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Pennsylvania Patient Safety Authority welcomes a new clinical director, Ellen S. Deutsch, MD, FAAP, FACS, to oversee the clinical aspects of patient safety programs and its academic journal, the Pennsylvania Patient Safety Advisory.
The Authority's current clinical director, John R. Clarke, M.D., FACS, is retiring from the position after 11 years of service to the Authority and the Commonwealth.
"The Authority has been fortunate that we have not had to fill the clinical director position since its inception in 2003," Mike Doering, executive director of the Pennsylvania Patient Safety Authority said. "We are also extremely pleased that Dr. Deutsch has agreed to join us in working to improve patient safety within Pennsylvania's healthcare facilities."
Doering introduced Deutsch to Authority board members and staff at the quarterly meeting held today.
Along with the clinical director position, Deutsch worked the last five years at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia as director for the Center for Simulation, Advanced Education and Innovation. She received her bachelor's degree from Goddard College and her medical degree from the University of Maryland. She recently earned her master's degree from Northwestern University in healthcare quality and patient safety.
Deutsch previously worked as a pediatric otolaryngologist for St. Christopher's Hospital for Children and Nemours Children's clinics at the Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children. In 2014, she received the Association for Surgical Education Award for Excellence in Innovation.
