MIDDLETOWN, Pa., Oct. 9, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Pennsylvania Lottery has introduced a free smartphone app offering easy access to drawing results, jackpots, instant game details, second-chance opportunities to win and on-the-go fun for Lottery players.
"Our players asked us to develop an app and we listened," said Lottery Executive Director Sil Lutkewitte. "With the soaring popularity of smartphones and greatly increased mobile traffic to our website, our official app will make it simpler and easier for players to stay connected with us."
Available through Google Play and the Apple App Store, the new app's features include:
- The ability to scan tickets for entry in the Second Chance Prize Zone™;
- Daily and past winning numbers;
- Current jackpots;
- The latest instant games and "Scratch For Fun;"
- Prizes remaining for instant games;
- Access to the VIP Players Club;
- "Play for Fun" games;
- A retailer locator; and
- Information on how to claim a prize.
A growing number of consumers are using mobile devices to access palottery.com. Last year, the number of mobile website visits grew to 49 million, marking a 70 percent increase from the previous year. Ten of the nation's top 16 state lotteries have introduced apps, including a number of states that border Pennsylvania.
"We've come so far since our first game debuted in 1972, when players had to consult a newspaper to check winning numbers," Lutkewitte said. "The launch of our mobile app reflects our continued commitment to using advances in technology to better serve Lottery players."
Every effort is made to ensure the accuracy of the winning numbers, prize payouts and other information offered via the Pennsylvania Lottery's mobile app. The official winning numbers are those selected in the respective drawings and recorded under the observation of an independent accounting firm. In the event of a discrepancy, the official drawing results shall prevail.
Players must continue to visit Lottery retailers to purchase and validate tickets. For security reasons, the mobile app cannot be used to scan tickets for prize validation.
