Pennsylvania Labor & Industry Secretary Vito Highlights Industry Partnership Successes
Initiative Brings Employers Together, Provides Advanced Training to Workforce
MOUNT JOY, Pa., April 22 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Labor & Industry Secretary Sandi Vito today lauded the success of industry partnerships as part of Pennsylvania's reinvigorated workforce development system and highlighted legislative efforts to ensure their future success.
"Industry partnerships are a crucial component of Pennsylvania's industry-led workforce development system," Vito said during a visit to the Lancaster County Career & Technical Center. "They are helping strengthen our state's economy, make groups of employers more competitive and deliver the advanced skills training our workforce must have to succeed in today's workplace."
Joined by members of the General Assembly, representatives from the Lancaster County Career & Technical Center, GlaxoSmithKline, Pepperidge Farm Inc., and the Lancaster County Workforce Investment Board, Vito commended the state House of Representatives for unanimously approving House Bill 2230, which would establish industry partnerships under law, and urged quick approval of the bill by the Senate.
"Pennsylvania's economic health depends on the vitality of our employers," Vito said. "I cannot overstate the value of industry partnerships and the essential role they play in positioning Pennsylvania as an economic and workforce leader."
Industry partnerships can identify specific training needs and skill gaps, help connect young people to careers, help educational and training institutions arrange a curriculum to meet business demands, address worker recruitment and retention, develop career ladders within companies, highlight best practices, and promote communication among companies.
Across Pennsylvania, nearly 6,300 employers from 20 industries are in 74 active industry partnerships; with more than 75,000 workers trained since the program began in 2005.
