Pennsylvania Labor & Industry Secretary Vito Highlights Industry Partnership Successes
Initiative Brings Employers Together, Provides Advanced Training to Workforce
KENNETT SQUARE, Pa., April 22 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Labor & Industry Secretary Sandi Vito today lauded the success of industry partnerships as part of Pennsylvania's reinvigorated workforce development system and highlighted legislative efforts to ensure their future success.
"These partnerships are the cornerstone of Pennsylvania's industry-led workforce development system," Vito said during a visit to Kendal-Crosslands Communities, a retirement-living residence and health care industry partnership participant. "They are bringing businesses together, making them more competitive, and providing the training workers need to meet employers' needs."
Joined by members of the General Assembly, representatives from Kendal-Crosslands Communities, Puresyn Inc., the Chester County Economic Development Council and employees, Vito commended the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for unanimously approving House Bill 2230, which would establish industry partnerships under law, and encouraged quick action by the Senate to do the same.
"Industry partnerships have proven their worth through the opportunities they have created and the advantages they have afforded tens of thousands of businesses and workers," Vito said. "These partnerships have been among the most valuable, successful and productive investments Pennsylvania has made in our economy, employers, workers and our future."
Industry partnerships can identify specific training needs and skill gaps, help connect young people to careers, help educational and training institutions arrange curriculum to meet business demands, address worker recruitment and retention, develop career ladders within companies, highlight best practices, and promote communication among companies.
Across Pennsylvania, nearly 6,300 employers from 20 industries are in 74 active industry partnerships; with more than 75,000 workers trained since the program began in 2005.
