Pennsylvania Labor & Industry Announces Upcoming Veterans Workshop
HARRISBURG, Pa., June 10, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Department of Labor & Industry (L&I) announced today that a veterans workshop sponsored by the PA CareerLink® of Beaver County will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 11, at the PA CareerLink® of Beaver County (located in the Beaver Valley Mall on Route 18) in Monaca.
"We've created a program to provide the basic information that every former member of the armed services needs to know," veterans representative Jack Lyden said. "Vets are encouraged to ask questions during and after the workshop. It is rewarding when a vet discovers that the service they need; and help applying for that service is readily available."
The veterans workshop, which was recently expanded due to overwhelming demand, is designed to help veterans gain access to federal, state, and community benefits and services. Workshops and seminars include speakers from the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, Beaver County Veterans Affairs, and PA CareerLink® centers.
Veterans who attend these workshops all agree that they come away with useful information.
"I think more veterans should sit through this to know what they can do to help themselves have a better life," U.S. Army veteran Timothy Rose said after April's workshop.
Any former members of the armed forces are invited to attend the workshops. Information will be presented on: Veterans affairs (VA) benefits and services, disability assistance, state veteran benefits, VA medical care, education/training programs and veteran service organizations.
"Even though I had already spoken with the county veterans' service officer and registered for medical care at the local VA outpatient clinic, I still got lots of useful information in a short amount of time," U.S. Army combat veteran Jesse Patterson said after April's workshop. "It was great!"
The June 11 workshop is free and walk-ins are welcome. To pre-register, please call 724-728-4860, extension 215.
