Pennsylvania Justice Network Awarded Grant by National Governors Association
HARRISBURG, Pa., Aug. 3 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Pennsylvania Justice Network, or JNET, will receive grant funding and technical assistance from the National Governors Association (NGA) to develop new tools and resources, while lowering the costs associated with justice information-sharing initiatives.
"JNET users benefit from fast and accurate access to a wealth of criminal justice and public safety data, which are provided by a variety of municipal, county, state and federal agencies," said Dave Naisby, Executive Director of JNET. "With assistance from the National Governors Association, we hope to increase use of existing JNET services by our 38,000 users, and to create a clear path for new agencies to share information and integrate with the network."
Pennsylvania is one of five states selected to participate in the NGA's Policy Academy on Interagency Standardization of Justice Information Sharing Systems, which includes a $25,000 grant and technical assistance from NGA staff and experts.
JNET plans to review its current policies, procedures and security for web services and gather recommendations to expand and improve upon them. JNET will also develop a communications plan for sharing this information with current and prospective participants. JNET will test the new guidelines as it develops a new application that will coordinate multiple existing services, as well as possibly others that are not currently part of JNET. The findings will be shared with JNET's partnering agencies, as well the U.S. Department of Justice's Global Information Sharing Initiative.
