Pennsylvania Health Secretary Announces Selection of ABC-MAP Program Vendor
HARRISBURG, Pa., Feb. 16, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Pennsylvania Secretary of Health Dr. Karen Murphy today announced the selection of the ABC-MAP program vendor, marking an important milestone in the development of the state's prescription drug monitoring program.
Speaking at the regular meeting of the ABC-MAP governance board, Murphy announced Appriss will oversee the development of the prescription drug monitoring database.
Appriss provides data-driven solutions for public safety, health care, and leading private and public companies. The Kentucky-based company currently serves 24 state prescription drug monitoring programs.
"The program will provide physicians with information that will assist them in identifying patients who would benefit from treatment," said Murphy. "With Governor Tom Wolf's guidance, the department is moving expeditiously to curb opioid addiction, which is harming so many families and communities in the commonwealth."
Krishnan Sastry, executive vice president of products for Appriss, and Brad Bauer, vice president of business development for Appriss, discussed their company's mission to provide comprehensive data systems that keep communities safe and informed.
The goal of the prescription drug monitoring program is to assist health care professionals to prescribe and dispense medications safely and refer identified patients to treatment. The database will continue to provide a tool for law enforcement to identify criminal activity.
