Pennsylvania Governor's Postsecondary Education Commission to Meet in Wilkes-Barre
HARRISBURG, Pa., June 27, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Governor Tom Corbett's Advisory Commission on Postsecondary Education will hold its fifth regional public meeting on Thursday, June 28, in Wilkes-Barre.
The meeting, featuring a number of guest speakers and inviting public comment, will be held from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Genetti's Wilkes-Barre, 77 E. Market St., Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County.
Scheduled speakers include Bloomsburg Mayor Daniel D. Knorr II as well as representatives from Workforce Initiatives, PNC Capital Markets and the Association of Pennsylvania State Colleges & University Faculties. Also scheduled to speak are representatives of Luzerne County Community College, Keystone College, Lehigh Career & Technical Institute, and East Stroudsburg, Mansfield, Point Park and Wilkes universities.
Following the speakers and discussion, the meeting will be open for comments and questions from the public.
The panel is working to identify key issues and review current policies, procedures, regulations and legislation that impact postsecondary education in Pennsylvania and developing-range strategies. It will also evaluate trends in education, including the role of technology and how education can increase collaboration with the private sector and government.
The 31-member commission, comprised of leaders in postsecondary education and business, will continue discussions in Harrisburg before reporting back to Corbett by Nov. 15 with its recommendations. It is chaired by Rob Wonderling, chief executive officer of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce and former state senator.
