Pennsylvania Governor Corbett's Postsecondary Education Panel to Meet in Pittsburgh and Mercer County
HARRISBURG, Pa., June 13, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Governor Tom Corbett's Advisory Commission on Postsecondary Education will hold regional public meetings on Thursday, June 14, in Pittsburgh and in Mercer County.
The Pittsburgh meeting, featuring a number of guest speakers and inviting public comment, will be held from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Allegheny Conference on Community Development, 11 Stanwix St., 17th Floor, Pittsburgh.
Scheduled guest speakers include representatives of Carnegie Mellon University, Robert Morris College, Penn United Technologies Inc. and Clarion University Alumni Association.
The Mercer County meeting, also featuring guest speakers and inviting public comment, will be held from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at The Park Inn Radisson, 3377 New Castle Road, West Middlesex.
Among the guest speakers will be Rep. Brad Roae (R-Crawford County), representatives from Butler County Community College and the University of Pittsburgh, as well as college students and business people.
Both meetings will be open for comments and questions from the public following the speakers and discussion.
The 31-member panel, comprised of leaders in post secondary education and business, has been asked to identify key issues and review current policies, procedures, regulations and legislation that impacts postsecondary education in Pennsylvania and develop long range strategies.
It will also evaluate trends in education, including the role of technology and how education can increase collaboration with the private sector and government. The panel is chaired by Rob Wonderling, chief executive officer of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce and former state senator.
The commission is to report back to Corbett by Nov. 15 with its recommendations.
The final regional public meeting will be held on June 28 in Luzerne County. The commission plans to return to Harrisburg for meetings in July and August.
