Pennsylvania Governor Corbett's Postsecondary Education Commission to Meet
HARRISBURG, Pa., May 31, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Governor Tom Corbett's Advisory Commission on Postsecondary Education will hold its second regional public meeting on Friday, June 1, in Philadelphia.
The meeting, featuring a number of guest speakers and inviting public comment, will be held from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Global Philadelphia Association/Reed Smith, 2500 One Liberty Place.
Scheduled speakers include representatives of Neumann, Drexel and LaSalle universities, as well as University of the Sciences, Manor College, the Milton Hershey School and the Veterans National Education Program.
Following the speakers and discussion, the meeting will be open for comments and questions from the public.
The panel has been asked to identify key issues and review current policies, procedures, regulations and legislation that impacts postsecondary education in Pennsylvania and develop long-range strategies. It will also evaluate trends in education, including the role of technology and how education can increase collaboration with the private sector and government.
The 31-member commission, comprised of leaders in post secondary education and business, is to report back to Corbett by Nov. 15 with its recommendations. It is chaired by Rob Wonderling, chief executive officer of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce and former state senator.
The next two regional public meetings will be held on June 14, with a morning session in Pittsburgh and an afternoon session in Mercer County.
