Pennsylvania Governor Corbett Tours Ned Smith Center for Nature and Arts as Part of Central PA Kayak Tour
MILLERSBURG, Pa., Aug. 24, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Governor Tom Corbett today toured the Ned Smith Center for Nature and Arts as a part of his two-day kayak tour of central Pennsylvania. The governor is promoting Pennsylvania's natural resources and the great quality of life our vast recreational opportunities provide.
The Ned Smith Center for Nature and Art was founded in 1993 to celebrate the life and works of its namesake, the nationally recognized wildlife artist, naturalist and writer Ned Smith. The center's lands offer a tranquil outdoor experience on more than 500 contiguous acres of rustic beauty located just outside Ned Smith's hometown of Millersburg, Dauphin County.
"This kayak tour allows me to see the beauty of Pennsylvania from another vantage point, the Susquehanna River. The Ned Smith Center is a great example of that beauty; here tourists can see the importance of our unspoiled lands and the efforts we have made to preserve them," said Corbett.
Gov. Corbett's two-day kayak tour of central Pennsylvania began this morning in Paxton and followed the Susquehanna into Halifax. Corbett was joined by representatives from the departments of Conservation and Natural Resources and Environmental Protection.
"People who come to Pennsylvania can see what this state has to offer to those who feel most at home out-of-doors," said Corbett. "Whether it's camping, canoeing, kayaking or just sitting back to enjoy, our state has a lot to offer. I encourage families across the commonwealth, and from out of state, to take that final summer-ending vacation right here in Penn's Woods."
