Pennsylvania Governor Corbett Proclaims March 17-23 as Land Surveyors Week
Department of Transportation Highlights its Surveyors' Importance
HARRISBURG, Pa., March 15, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Governor Tom Corbett has proclaimed March 17-23 as Land Surveyors Week in Pennsylvania, noting that surveyors' specialized skill sets provide exceptional service to communities through their work to develop transportation routes, utility projects and more.
Corbett's proclamation coincides with National Surveyors Week.
PennDOT employs more than 100 surveyors, survey technicians and photogrammetric technicians who help ensure projects are designed accurately and executed safely using the latest technology. Common survey examples include preliminary and design engineering for bridges and highways; topographic surveys; right of way surveys; and wetland surveys.
"While Pennsylvania's landscape and population changes over time and technology continues to advance, the state's transportation needs will always remain," PennDOT Secretary Barry J. Schoch said. "I thank the department's surveyors for their role in developing our infrastructure."
The department's photogrammetric technicians produce digital aerial photography and design scale mapping to further assist with project design and information gathering.
