Pennsylvania Governor Corbett Commends House Transportation Committee for Vote on Transportation Funding
HARRISBURG, Pa., June 27, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Governor Tom Corbett today issued the following statement in response to the House Transportation Committee voting an amendment to Senate Bill 1 out of committee:
"Today's vote shows that the legislature understands transportation's importance to Pennsylvania's safety and economy.
"I want to thank Chairman Hess and Chairman McGeehan for sponsoring this amendment, as well as other representatives from both parties for their bi-partisan support on this key issue.
"Additional transportation funding means that smoother roads, safer bridges and reliable public transportation will be part of our state's future. As Chairman McGeehan stated, this is a responsibility of government and an important step in addressing the need.
"This issue has been growing for decades and I look forward to the ongoing dialogue as the House and Senate work to pass a long-term, viable solution."
PennDOT Secretary Barry J. Schoch added:
"Governor Corbett has said that he wants action on transportation funding by June 30, and this amendment continues our progress toward that goal."
"I thank the governor for his leadership, and the members who have passed this amendment. We are now one step closer to passing the most significant transportation legislation in decades."
