Pennsylvania Governor Corbett Announces Major Logistics Company to Expand in the Lehigh Valley; Create 39 New Jobs
HARRISBURG, Pa., March 6, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Governor Tom Corbett announced today that Rehrig Pacific Logistics, a nationwide logistics company with seven Pennsylvania locations, will expand and lease a new facility in Northampton County and create 39 new jobs.
"My administration is committed to creating a business climate in Pennsylvania that supports companies like Rehrig Pacific Logistics and the jobs they create," said Corbett. "This project is a great example of state government partnering with the private sector to bring economic investment and new jobs to the local community."
The company will enter into a five-year lease and renovate a 38,400-square-foot facility located in Glendon Borough, Northampton County. Rehrig will use the renovated facility to convert scrap pallet material from its seven Pennsylvania locations into fiberboard. The project will create at least 39 jobs within three years.
Rehrig Pacific Logistics received a $767,550 funding offer from the Department of Community and Economic Development, including a $750,000 loan from the Machine and Equipment Loan Fund and $17,550 in job training assistance.
"We're excited to bring our innovative recycled fiberboard factory to Pennsylvania," said Rehrig Pacific Logistics' director of innovation and operations, Todd Rodewald. "There are currently no companies in the U.S. converting wood waste in this manner. The facility will be producing a 100-percent recycled wood product for use in the furniture and construction industries. It's a win-win for Rehrig, Pennsylvania and the environment."
The project was coordinated by the Governor's Action Team or GAT, a group of economic development professionals who work directly with businesses that are considering locating or expanding in Pennsylvania. The Governor's Action Team worked with the Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corporation (LVEDC) to assist Rehrig Pacific Logistics' efforts to expand.
"We're pleased to have introduced Rehrig to the Governor's Action Team, which assisted them to obtain incentives that led to the creation of manufacturing jobs," said LVEDC President and C.E.O Phil Mitman. "These new jobs enhance our region's sustainability efforts and recycling opportunities. Rehrig and other visionary companies like Rehrig are the type of businesses we help recruit to the Lehigh Valley."
