Pennsylvania Game Commission Applauds Pending Transfer of Rockview SCI Property to State Game Land System
HARRISBURG, Pa., July 9 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Pennsylvania Game Commission Executive Director Carl G. Roe today applauded Gov. Edward G. Rendell, Rep. Michael Hanna (D-76), Rep. Kerry Benninghoff (R-171) and Sen. Jake Corman (R-34) for enactment of legislation to transfer more than 1,200 acres of state-owned property, presently part of Rockview State Correctional Institution in Centre County, to the agency's State Game Lands system. Gov. Rendell today signed into law House Bill 1890, sponsored by Rep. Hanna.
"This is great news for those interested in securing public lands that will be managed by the Game Commission for wildlife habitats, as well as public hunting and trapping," Roe said. "However, it is important for the public to remember that this property still is under the Department of Corrections oversight, and will not be open for public use until the deed transfer has been finalized.
"This property has been part of the Department of Corrections since the 1920s, and has been closed to the public. We ask for patience for a few more months until the transfer is complete, at which time we will certainly be making a public announcement."
House Bill 1890 was approved by a vote of 199-1 in the House on June 30, and was unanimous in the Senate on July 3.
