Pennsylvania First Lady Susan Corbett Reads to York Elementary School Students
Encourages them to develop a love of reading
YORK, Pa., Dec. 17, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Pennsylvania First Lady Susan Corbett today visited Ferguson K-8 school in York as part of Scholastic's "Read Every Day, Lead a Better Life" literacy campaign. Mrs. Corbett encouraged students to make reading a priority every day.
Serving as a "Reading Ambassador" on behalf of Scholastic, Mrs. Corbett read the book "Rudolph Shines Again" to first and second grade students. In honor of her visit, Scholastic donated 500 books for the students to take home and read over the holidays.
"As a parent and former teacher, I know how important it is to encourage children to read," Mrs. Corbett said. "It is essential that students develop a love of reading at an early age to keep them on the path to becoming lifelong learners."
The Scholastic "Read Every Day, Lead a Better Life" campaign is designed to spread the message that children need strong literacy skills in order to succeed in today's global economy.
The books donated today cover a wide variety of topics and reading levels, ensuring all the students have a book that they can enjoy.
