Pennsylvania Filing Available Presidents Day for Candidates' Nomination Petitions
HARRISBURG, Pa., Feb. 4, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Bureau of Commissions, Elections and Legislation (BCEL) will accept political candidates' nomination petitions on Presidents Day, Monday, February 15, Secretary of State Pedro A. Cortés said today.
The Department of State, like most state offices, will be closed for the holiday. However, BCEL will have staff available for petition filing at the Keystone Building, Hearing Room 1, 400 North Street, Harrisburg. BCEL will be closed for all other services that day.
"This year, the holiday falls on the next to last day of petition filing, traditionally a very busy day," Cortés said. "If we were to be closed, it could create a hardship for some candidates. In the interest of providing the best customer service possible, we have arranged to staff our petition-filing headquarters on February 15."
Candidates who must file with the Department of State may bring their petitions to Hearing Room 1 at the Keystone Building Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
The signature gathering and petition filing period began January 26 for candidates seeking to have their names on the Democratic or Republican ballot in the April 26 primary. All nomination petitions must be filed no later than 5 p.m., February 16.
The Department reminds candidates they can file petitions that meet the signature requirement for the office they are seeking at any time during the filing period. If candidates subsequently gather more signatures, they can file supplemental petitions by the February 16 deadline. All petitions are accepted for filing in Hearing Room 1 at the Keystone Building.
