Pennsylvania Education Secretary Pedro Rivera to Make Two Stops on Schools That Teach Tour
HARRISBURG, Pa., Sept. 20, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- State Education Secretary Pedro A. Rivera visited two schools in southeastern Pennsylvania Tuesday to speak with administrators, teachers, and students as part of the Wolf Administration's Schools That Teach tour.
During Rivera's tours of Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU) in Downingtown and the AIM Academy in Conshohocken, he shared with the schools' stakeholders Governor Wolf's vision for improving education for every student regardless of zip code.
"Schools across the state have made great strides in improving student growth and outcomes," Rivera said. "On school visits like these, I look for best practices that I can share with educators across the commonwealth, I listen and gather feedback about what is working and what is not working regarding state education policy, and I communicate the vision that Governor Wolf and I share for helping every student achieve."
Rivera noted that since taking office Governor Wolf has secured record investments of almost $640 million in increased funding to public education -- from high quality pre-kindergarten to post-secondary institutions, expressed his support for introducing a more holistic approach to measuring schools, and made schools a top priority of his administration.
At CCIU, Rivera spoke with school program staff about current technical education programs, and the local communities and partnerships can play a role in the future.
At the AIM Academy, Rivera learned about the school's approach to educating students with language-based learning differences, and how all students can grow and overcome their challenges to graduate college or career ready.
"With robust support from leaders in Harrisburg and targeted partnerships in their local communities, schools across Pennsylvania can continue to serve students and give them the tools they will need when they graduate, and help them find success in college or career," Rivera said.
