Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare Software Product Receives National Governors Association Honor
HARRISBURG, Pa., Feb. 28, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Leading by example in the effort to improve government and save taxpayer dollars, Secretary of Public Welfare Gary D. Alexander today announced that the department's Medical Assistance Provider Incentive Repository (MAPIR) software product was recognized at the recent National Governors Association winter meeting in Washington, D.C.
HP Enterprise Services, which developed MAPIR at the department's request, accepted the sixth Annual Public-Private Partnership Award for creating the unique software now being used in Pennsylvania and 12 collaborating states.
"We have demonstrated that our focus is on innovative programs that ensure quality services and realize cost-savings," said Alexander.
The MAPIR product was developed to help states work together to assist their providers in applying for Electronic Health Record incentive payments. These payments are used to enable providers to adopt certified health information technology including the transition of paper medical records to electronic medical records. States using the MAPIR system include Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Massachusetts, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Wisconsin.
Staff at the Department of Public Welfare originated the concept of a multi-state collaboration to address the nationwide effort to modernize the health care system through technology. A team from the department's Office of Medical Assistance Programs oversaw the successful implementation of the MAPIR collaboration, ensuring that the product met the desired need and remained financially sound.
"The NGA award is also an honor for the Department of Public Welfare," Alexander said. "In leading the effort to develop the MAPIR product, we have furthered our goal to make government operate better."
