Pennsylvania Department of Banking and Securities Outlines Financial Capability Measures

HARRISBURG, Pa., April 4, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Department of Banking and Securities is promoting financial capability with outreach events throughout the month of April following Governor Wolf's proclamation of April as "Financial Capability Month" in Pennsylvania.

These events are designed to help: senior citizens protect themselves from financial fraud; college students prepare for lifelong financial independence; people at different stages of their lives think about planning for retirement; legal professionals understand how to protect their clients from elder financial abuse; and consumers protect themselves in online financial transactions through cybersecurity awareness.

In his proclamation, the governor praised several Pennsylvania initiatives aimed at promoting financial capability, including partnerships and programs sponsored by state government agencies, educational institutions, consumer advocacy groups, and businesses.

"Promoting strong financial capability is crucial to helping Pennsylvanians build their financial independence and ability to make well-informed decisions in the marketplace," said Secretary of Banking and Securities Robin L. Wiessmann. "During the month of April, Governor Wolf and I encourage Pennsylvanians to take advantage of the tools and resources available through many organizations and institutions to assist them in growing and protecting their money."
