Pennsylvania Department of Aging Offers 'Just Talk About It' Videos to Help Consumers Plan End-of-Life Care Needs
HARRISBURG, Pa., Nov. 16, 2010 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A series of videos that encourage people to make difficult but necessary decisions about end-of-life care are now available, the Pennsylvania Department of Aging announced today.
"While it might be uncomfortable to talk about the end of our lives, it is essential that clear plans be made in advance to avoid having to make very emotional decisions in a time of crisis. These videos clearly explain the need to talk about our wishes regarding where and how we get care in our final days," said Secretary of Aging John Michael Hall.
The videos urge family members to discuss how they want to be cared for in their final years, months and days, and can be viewed at www.aging.state.pa.us.
The creation of the videos was recommended in the Report to the Governor on Improving End-of-Life Experiences for Pennsylvanians in 2007. The eleven, one-minute "Just Talk About It" videos were produced by The Take Charge Partnership of Pittsburgh and address advanced care planning, care giving, hospice and palliative care and pain management.
Research indicates that better decision-making occurs when individuals and families take time to understand and openly discuss their options and wishes for care at the end of their lives.
