Pennsylvania DEP Now Accepting Applications for 2013 Governor's Environmental Excellence Awards

HARRISBURG, Pa., Dec. 13, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Department of Environmental Protection is encouraging environmental stewards to apply for the 2013 Governor's Environmental Excellence Award.

"Many Pennsylvanians devote their time and energy to projects that promote environmental protection and foster economic growth," DEP Secretary Mike Krancer said. "That kind of dedication deserves recognition, and this award recognizes those individuals and organizations that distinguish themselves and serve as role models."

The award is open to all Pennsylvania businesses, farms, government agencies, educational institutions, non-profit organizations and individuals that have developed innovative environmental projects, strategies and technologies or have created opportunities that balance environmental stewardship and economic development.

Eligible projects include wastewater recycling technology innovation, resource development, renewable and alternative energy innovation, economic opportunity development, watershed restoration strategies and environmental education outreach, among others. 

Projects will be evaluated based on seven criteria detailed within the application, including potential job creation and use of innovation technology. A clear, concise explanation of the project's purpose must be included in the project summary.

The project must have been completed between Aug. 1, 2011, and July 31, 2012. While each candidate may submit only one application for a particular project, companies with multiple facilities may submit an application for each facility.

Projects that have previously received a Governor's Award for Environmental Excellence are not eligible for this award, though past winners may submit applications for new projects for consideration.

Each project will be reviewed by a committee of DEP employees. Recipients of the award will be honored during an evening reception and the winning projects will also be listed on DEP's website.

Projects should be submitted via email to [email protected] by 5 p.m. on Jan. 31, 2013. Faxed or mailed submissions will not be considered.
