HARRISBURG, Pa., April 5 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Ed McMahon, a noted author, attorney, lecturer and expert on creating and sustaining livable and prosperous communities, will speak at a free public event on Monday, April 12, at Allenberry Resort and Playhouse in Boiling Springs, Cumberland County. A reception will be held at 6 p.m. and the lecture will begin at 7 p.m.
McMahon, a fellow for sustainable development at the Urban Land Institute, will provide examples of how communities use their assets to enhance the quality of life in a community and to attract economic opportunity. Participants will learn about how sustainable tourism and asset protection can benefit residents and visitors in the South Mountain, central Pennsylvania region.
The event starts a two-day workshop with eight teams of community leaders and stakeholders who will develop work plans addressing issues in their community that balance economic development with conservation of natural and cultural assets.
Asset-based economic development, tourism promotion and historic preservation are among the themes of McMahon's programs, entitled "The Dollars and Sense of Protecting Community Character."
McMahon will present material from his book "Better Models for Development in Pennsylvania." He stresses the use of education, incentives and voluntary initiatives to encourage higher quality development.
The event is sponsored by the South Mountain Partnership, a unified group of private citizens, businesses, non-profit organizations and government representatives in Adams, Cumberland, Franklin and York counties, working together to protect and enhance the region.
