Pennsylvania DCED Davin Talks Jobs, Manufacturing at 'Jobs that Pay' tour at Curry Rail Services in Blair County
HOLLIDAYSBURG, Pa., June 22, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Department of Community and Economic Development Secretary Dennis Davin today continued his "Jobs that Pay" tour at Curry Rail Services, a locomotive and freight car manufacturing and service facility, highlighting Governor Wolf's proposals to reinvigorate Pennsylvania's manufacturing sector and recapitalize various economic development tools.
"The significant reforms proposed in the budget will continue to move Pennsylvania forward by creating a pro-business climate that supports our manufacturing sector," said Davin. "Governor Wolf's budget plan also includes the recapitalization of our proven economic development tools such as the Pennsylvania First program and Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority funds."
Governor Wolf's 2015-16 budget will provide an increase of $25 million to Pennsylvania First to continue to foster investment, job creation and provide support for WEDnetPA, a critical employee training program available to Pennsylvania's workers.
"The utilization of state support for programs like Pennsylvania First and PIDA provided us with the opportunity to expand our facilities in Hollidaysburg and East Freedom, and create new jobs," said Mark Ritchey, co-owner of Curry Supply Holdings. "As we continue to expand our businesses, we are excited to know that these important tools will receive additional funding under the Governor's proposal."
Governor Wolf's budget will also provide critical access to capital for small businesses by infusing $100 million into the Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority through revenue from the severance tax on gas drilling.
"Companies in our region utilize state and local programs to advance investments as well as job creation and retention efforts including programs like the Pennsylvania First Program and the Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority," said Marty Marasco, President & CEO of the Altoona-Blair County Development Corporation. "We are thankful for the cooperative partnerships with the governor, DCED and our local businesses, like Curry Rail Services, which allow for growth here in Blair County and the Commonwealth."
