Pennsylvania Council on the Arts Executive Director Philip Horn Appointed to National PTA Board
HARRISBURG, Pa., Aug. 1, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Pennsylvania Council on the Arts chair and First Lady Susan Corbett today announced that PCA executive director Philip Horn has been appointed to the National PTA® board of directors by its national president.
"The appointment of Philip Horn to a key advisory role in one of the nation's most prominent organizations devoted to the educational success of children and the promotion of parent involvement in schools reflects well on the agency and the Commonwealth," said Mrs. Corbett. "It's yet another example of national recognition that has come to our state's arts council as a result of Philip's leadership and involvement in arts education."
Horn has served as executive director of the PCA since 1993. Throughout his tenure, the PCA has worked to foster education excellence by working directly in schools and community settings.
The groundbreaking Pennsylvania Arts in Education Partnership initiated by Horn has demonstrated unprecedented ability to expand the PCA's support for arts in education. As a result, the agency was the first state arts agency to receive the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts' National Leadership Award in 2009.
Horn personally received the 2011 Award for Excellence in Leadership from VSA, the international organization on arts and disability.
In 2005, Horn was recognized by the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies with its Gary Young award – recognizing leadership, innovative thinking, sustained commitment to public support for the arts and dedication to diverse artistic expression.
Horn is one of 28 education professionals, parents, and community and business leaders from across the country serving on the National PTA's board of directors. Board members are volunteers and serve two-year terms. They are either elected member representatives by convention delegates or appointed by the national president as at-large members.
