Pennsylvania Banking Department Announces New Online Search Tool Offering Consumers Greater Access to Information About Mortgage Industry
HARRISBURG, Pa., Feb. 2 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Pennsylvania consumers can learn more about mortgage companies and professionals doing business in the commonwealth by using a new search tool available from Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System.
NMLS Consumer Access is a single source of licensing information on all mortgage companies, branches and loan originator professionals licensed by the Department of Banking, including license status, other business names and employment history.
Consumers can access the search tool at www.nmlsconsumeraccess.org or from the department's Web site at www.banking.state.pa.us.
The department and other state regulators worked with the Conference of State Bank Supervisors and the American Association of Residential Mortgage Regulators to create and launch NMLS.
The department also hosts a Financial Institutions Search that provides information to the public about banks, credit unions, trust companies, check cashers, pawnbrokers, car dealers and other businesses it regulates. Consumers can also search for final and pending enforcement actions against licensees from the department's Web site.
The department strongly encourages consumers to "do their homework" before doing business with any financial service provider. In addition to the tools provided on the department's Web site, consumers can also ask questions or file a complaint by calling, toll-free, 1-800-PA-BANKS.
