Pennsylvania Banking and Securities Department Highlights Consumer Protection Efforts at National Conference
HARRISBURG, Pa., Sept. 28, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- At an annual conference of the National Association of Consumer Credit Administrators (NACCA) in Tulsa, OK, staff members from the Department of Banking and Securities presented "Turning Complaints into Education," which shares with other state financial regulators the department's best practices for handling complaints as well as consumer education and outreach.
The presentation focused on how the department has been able to integrate its consumer outreach and response systems and work following the 2012 merger of the PA Department of Banking and the PA Securities Commission, as well as the creation of the Financial Services for Consumers and Business unit in 2015. Department staff members are now able to use information consumers provide – by phone, Internet, or in-person – to develop new outreach programs, new audiences, and new ways of delivering programs, as well as to better respond to emerging risks, like cybersecurity threats.
"It is a great honor as well as a recognition to be invited to present at this national gathering of state regulators," Secretary of Banking and Securities Robin L. Wiessmann said. "Our presentation is built on decades of providing consumers assistance with their questions and complaints about financial services and products."
NACCA has members from 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and Alberta, Canada. Its members primarily license and regulate non-depository institutions such as finance companies, mortgage companies, small loan companies, payday lenders, pawnbrokers, and other similar types of industries.
