Pennsylvania AFL-CIO: Pennsylvania's GOP Elected Officials Sell Out Middle Class in Favor of Corporate Giveaways
HARRISBURG, Pa., Dec. 20, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Officers of the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO, President Rick Bloomingdale and Secretary-Treasurer Frank Snyder, issued the following statement on the passage of the GOP Tax Plan:
"Today, Senator Pat Toomey along with all twelve Republican Congressmen from our Commonwealth voted for a bill that will pose a considerable threat to working people across Pennsylvania. With their vote today, these legislators have handed a tax break to corporations and provided an incentive to outsource American jobs.
This tax plan will not only result in shipping existing jobs to foreign countries, it will encourage an increase in automation and the economic displacement of working people. This plan does nothing to ensure the hiring of additional workers, or provide a desperately-needed increase in the stagnant wages of the middle class.
Over the next ten years, working people, retirees and middle class families will face rising federal taxes, a reduction in public resources and services, and a ballooning national deficit, because of the actions of right-wing economic ideologues. While the Plan has passed both the U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives, the State Federation thanks U.S. Senator Bob Casey and all the Democratic members of Pennsylvania's Congressional delegation for standing up for working families across the Commonwealth, and America."
