Pennsylvania AFL-CIO Endorses Democrats Dan Onorato and Scott Conklin for Governor/Lt. Governor and Congressman Joe Sestak for U.S. Senate
HARRISBURG, Pa., Aug. 12 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Pennsylvania AFL-CIO President Richard Bloomingdale and Secretary-Treasurer Frank Snyder today announced the endorsements of Democrats Dan Onorato for Governor; Scott Conklin for Lieutenant Governor and Joe Sestak for U.S. Senate stating that all three candidates will fight to protect jobs and to put Pennsylvania back to work. The Pennsylvania AFL-CIO is the largest labor organization in the state representing over 900,000 union workers represented by unions affiliated with the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO.
"Just about all of the issues and challenges facing Pennsylvania's working families are tied to protecting and creating jobs. Dan Onorato has an excellent record of job creation and saving jobs while serving as Allegheny County's Chief Executive. He has the energy and the know how to put Pennsylvania back to work and is a strong advocate who won't hesitate to stand up publicly in support of the working people of Pennsylvania," Bloomingdale said in announcing the endorsement of Democrats Dan Onorato and Scott Conklin. "This election is a clear choice between electing the friends of working families or someone who publicly attacks unemployed workers who are unable to find a job and who has publicly said that he will do everything he can to block quality affordable health care for Pennsylvania workers," Bloomingdale emphasized.
In announcing the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO endorsement of Democratic Congressman Joe Sestak for U.S. Senate, Bloomingdale said that Joe has distinguished himself in the U.S. House of Representatives as a hard worker and problem solver on behalf of the working families of Pennsylvania. "Joe Sestak has compiled a 97 percent voting record in support of Pennsylvania workers on issues that matter most: economic recovery, protecting and creating jobs and helping unemployed workers," Bloomingdale said.
Pennsylvania AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Frank Snyder in commenting on the stark contrasts between Democrat Joe Sestak for U.S. Senate and his opponent said, "Joe Sestak devoted his life to serving and leading his country and to defending our nation from attacks by terrorists. While Joe Sestak was serving his country and defending our nation his opponent was trading derivatives on Wall Street and supporting policies in Congress that crashed our economy and destroyed millions of jobs," Snyder said. "The choice is clear for the working people of Pennsylvania, the choice between a problem solver and a true friend of workers or a candidate who is anti-worker and further to the right of the spectrum than Rick Santorum," Snyder emphasized.
The endorsements were made by the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO's Executive Council meeting at the Hershey Lodge in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Endorsements require 2/3rds majority of the Executive Council, which represents the unions of the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO.
Later this afternoon the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO will distribute a press release of its endorsements for the U.S. House of Representatives, the Pennsylvania State Senate and the Pennsylvania State House of Representatives.
