Pennsylvania AFL-CIO Emphasizes That It Has Not Taken a Position in Pennsylvania's 2014 Gubernatorial Race
HARRISBURG, Pa., Aug. 14, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Pennsylvania AFL-CIO President Rick Bloomingdale and Secretary-Treasurer Frank Snyder today emphasized that in no way, has the State's Labor Federation taken a position in Pennsylvania's 2014 Gubernatorial race. The statement comes as a result of reports that suggest the National AFL-CIO has included Pennsylvania among their key targets.
"It appears that Michael Podhorzer, the Political Director for our National AFL-CIO was misquoted by reporters in his interview about next year's races for Governor across the country. His intent was to emphasize the importance of several Gubernatorial races outside of the beltway but in no way was he indicating that endorsements or support have already been made," President Bloomingdale said. "That decision is the responsibility of the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO and has not been made yet."
"While we have not always agreed with Governor Corbett, we recognize that he is in fact, the Governor, and we still have work to do in the Commonwealth. Our goal has always been to find common ground with every Administration, that results in the best interests of our members and the citizens of Pennsylvania," remarked Frank Snyder, who is also the State's Political Director.
"Our State Federation has a structure to abide by when making endorsements. It will be up to the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO Executive Council to decide what position, and when we will be taking action in the 2014 Governor's race," Snyder added.
