Penn Pharma Targets June for Completion of Cold Storage Facility

TREDEGAR, South Wales, April 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Penn Pharma, a leading bioscience company headquartered in Wales with sales offices in Philadelphia, PA and San Francisco, CA, is targeting June 2010 for completion of its cold storage facility designed to meet U.S. Federal Drug Administration Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) regulations.

"The significant cold storage facility will double our capacity and will strengthen our position as a leading Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) in the UK and worldwide," said Paul Thomas, Chief Scientific Officer and Lead QP at Penn.  

The construction of the facility is but one step in Penn's $19M expansion program, which has already seen the company upgrade the site and improve transportation access.  The expansion program will be implemented over the next five years in line with the company's growth.

Equipped with the latest technology, the 15,000 square foot, 36 degrees-46 degrees F, cold storage facility will be powered by an essential-services electrical supply with generator back up and will be validated to run on any two of four available refrigeration units, for 100% back-up capacity.

The cold storage unit will be large enough to accommodate secondary packaging and labelling processes inside.  The facility will be continually monitored and alarmed using 21CFR11-compliant wireless telemetry.
