Peninsula Energy Services Company (PESCO) and the Miami-Dade Water & Sewer Department Execute Natural Gas Supply Agreement
WINTER HAVEN, Fla., April 6, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Chesapeake Utilities Corporation (NYSE: CPK) today announced that its natural gas marketing subsidiary, Peninsula Energy Services Company, Inc. (PESCO), has been selected by the Board of County Commissioners of Miami-Dade County to provide natural gas supply to the Miami-Dade Water & Sewer Department's water processing plants in Miami and Hialeah, Florida. The Miami-Dade Water & Sewer Department is the largest water utility in the Southeast United States, serving 2.2 million customers each day. The drinking water processed by the Department is consistently ranked as one of the highest quality municipal waters in the country.
"The Miami-Dade Water & Sewer District is a remarkable operation, pumping over 300 million gallons of fresh water per day to the residents of the Miami metropolitan area," said Bill Hancock, General Manager of PESCO. "We are excited to play such an integral part of the region's public infrastructure through our supply of natural gas to the Department's water processing operations."
"This new agreement provides an economical and reliable supply of natural gas to the Water Department for a period of five years," said Jack Langer, spokesperson for the Water & Sewer Department. "We are pleased to be working with PESCO, and are confident that this new relationship will deliver significant benefits to the customers of the Water and Sewer Department."
Natural gas supplies nearly one-fourth (24%) of all energy used in the United States and is a highly reliable, domestic energy source serving over 64 million residential customers and over five million commercial enterprises in the United States. Ninety-nine percent (99%) of the natural gas used in the United States is produced in North America. Natural gas is the cleanest fuel readily available on the market today. It is far more efficient, cost-effective and environmentally friendly than other hydrocarbon based energy sources. The direct use of natural gas can help the United States reach its carbon reduction goals; and its abundance as a domestic resource means that our country has enough natural gas to last more than a century, making it the clean energy to meet tomorrow's needs.
PESCO's natural gas marketing operations serve approximately 3,500 commercial and industrial customers. PESCO currently provides natural gas supply services in Florida, Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania.
