PEMA: Wolf Administration Creates New Fire and EMS Administrative Leadership Course to Improve Public Safety Organizations
HARRISBURG, Pa., May 18, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Office of the State Fire Commissioner and Department of Community and Economic Development today announced the creation of a new training and education opportunity for Pennsylvania first responders. The Fire and EMS Administrative Officer Course, offered through the State Fire Academy, will educate those in administrative and leadership roles in the state's emergency services community.
"We typically think of the men and women who run into burning buildings and staff the ambulance as the face of emergency services, but there are plenty of people behind the scenes who are just as vital to the operation of the station," said State Fire Commissioner Tim Solobay. "They have tremendous responsibility, and this course will give them the tools they need to effectively support their responders."
The newly designed course, presented in cooperation with the Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofit Organizations (PANO), will strengthen the attendee's knowledge and oversight of running a nonprofit fire and EMS organization. Attendees will learn how to implement best practices and create efficient and effective operations. Some of the topics covered include business planning, board management, governance and working with the public and elected officials.
"Fire and emergency services are a vital and necessary service that the communities throughout Pennsylvania rely on daily," DCED Secretary Dennis Davin said. "Creating additional opportunities for those leading these organizations to increase their knowledge will ensure that they remain a continued presence within the communities they serve."
OSFC is charged with meeting the diverse training, operational and informational needs of the commonwealth's fire and emergency service community. More information about the fire service in Pennsylvania, including training opportunities and grant programs, is available online at www.OSFC.pa.gov.
The Governor's Center for Local Government Services (GCLGS), housed within DCED, provides technical resources and assistance for fire and EMS companies considering merger, consolidation, regionalization efforts and also serves as a resource for local government officials, developers, and citizens interested in planning to improve, grow and enhance communities.
