Pelosi Statement on U.S.-Russia Arms Reduction Treaty
WASHINGTON, April 8 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement hailing the new arms reduction treaty signed by the United States and Russia earlier today:
"Today, the United States and Russia acted to make the world a safer place – for the people of both nations and for families across the globe. In signing a new arms reduction treaty, Presidents Obama and Medvedev marked a new era of cooperation and security, and moved us closer to a day defined not by the threat of nuclear weapons, but by the possibility of a future without them.
"This treaty reflects the leadership of both nations in reducing the need and number of nuclear weapons. It holds both sides accountable for cutting down our arsenals, and strengthens the global drive for non-proliferation. And it advances the partnership between the U.S. and Russia – keeping lines of communication open and ensuring that each country keeps their own citizens safe while working to make the entire world more secure.
"I applaud both presidents for having the courage, wisdom, and vision to sign this treaty. Together, we have made progress for the peace and security of all nations. I look forward to seeing this treaty ratified by the Senate later this year."
