Pelosi Statement on Natural Gas Explosion in San Bruno

Washington, Sept. 10 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on the natural gas explosion in San Bruno, California last night:

"The thoughts and prayers of the Bay Area and the nation go out to the victims of the natural gas explosion in San Bruno.

"The Bay Area congressional delegation, led by Congresswoman Jackie Speier, will work closely with state and local leaders to ensure that all necessary assistance is promptly delivered to recover quickly from this devastating tragedy. The Red Cross has shelters in place and local blood banks are seeking donations.

"A full investigation must take place in the coming days to determine the cause of this horrible accident, and the National Transportation Safety Board has already dispatched a team to California. However, our first responsibility must be to the families of those who have lost lives, the injured, and those who have lost their homes.

"Our thanks go out to the hundreds of first responders, who continue to valiantly work to save lives and homes."
