Pelosi Statement on House Passage of Legislation to Prevent 25 Percent Cut in Medicare Payments to Doctors
WASHINGTON, Dec. 9, 2010 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement today after the House voted 409 to 2 to pass the Medicare and Medicaid Extenders Act, which ensures seniors and military families will be able to continue seeing their doctors. This bipartisan bill blocks the 25 percent cut in Medicare payments to doctors, scheduled for January 1, through 2011. The Senate passed this legislation yesterday and it now goes to the President for his signature into law:
"Today, the House of Representatives acted on behalf of the health of America's seniors and military families. In passing the Medicare and Medicaid Extenders Act, we ensured that doctors get the support they need under Medicare to keep treating their patients – and seniors and military families have the peace of mind they deserve to continue seeing the doctors that they know and trust.
"This vote puts Members of Congress on the side of seniors, service members, and physicians. And it represents an investment in the well-being and future of all Americans.
"I commend all of my colleagues who supported this critical legislation. I look forward to working with leaders of both parties to secure a long-term fix to this challenge in the future without weakening health insurance reform."
