Pelosi Statement on Government Efficiency, Effectiveness, and Performance Improvement Act
WASHINGTON, Dec. 21, 2010 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today after the House passed the bipartisan Government Efficiency, Effectiveness, and Performance Improvement Act, which offers Congress new tools to reduce wasteful and ineffective spending and cut the deficit by assessing the performance of federal agencies. The Senate passed the bill last week; the House passed it today by a vote of 216 to 139 and it now goes to the President for his signature into law:
"Today, Congress acted on our ongoing commitment to fiscal discipline. In passing the bipartisan Government Efficiency, Effectiveness, and Performance Improvement Act, we will save taxpayers money by eliminating government waste. This bill gives lawmakers better tools to make informed budgetary decisions, reward effectiveness and punish waste in federal agencies, and steer agencies toward more results-oriented government.
"With the President's signature, this legislation becomes law – and reiterates our commitment to being responsible stewards of the public purse. I commend Congressman Henry Cuellar and the Blue Dogs for their leadership in passing this critical measure."
