Pelosi Statement on Announcement by Health Insurance Companies to End Practice of Rescissions Early
WASHINGTON, April 28 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Speaker Nancy Pelosi today released the following statement in response to the announcement that America's health insurance companies will abandon rescissions policies ahead of schedule:
"Today, America's largest insurers acted even sooner than the health insurance reform bill we passed required to end the shameful practice of dropping people's coverage when they get sick.
"The decision by the insurance companies is another sign that Republicans calling for repeal are out of touch – as the companies that fought reform are now backing away from the shocking practices they once employed.
"Moving forward, Congress will monitor the actions of these insurance companies, making sure that they uphold their promise to the American people. And we will continue to support independent, external, third party reviews to ensure that rescissions only occur in cases of fraud.
"With health insurance reform now law – and with insurers facing pressure to implement reforms quickly and effectively – these insurance companies are also allowing young people to stay on their parents' plans until age 26 before the September deadline.
"The health insurance reform bill passed by Democrats in Congress and signed into law by President Obama ensures that Americans will have access to quality, affordable care when they need it most."
