Pelosi Statement on $43.8 Million in Transportation Grants to San Francisco
WASHINGTON, Oct. 4 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Speaker Pelosi issued the following statement after the Department of Transportation announced two State of Good Repair Grants totaling $43.8 million for transportation projects in San Francisco.
"As our nation's infrastructure ages, it is increasingly crucial that we ensure our public transit remains in a state of good repair, so that it can continue to provide safe, efficient, and reliable transportation for millions of Americans and thousands of San Franciscans every day.
"San Francisco has long been a national leader as a transit-first city. Today's announcement will create jobs replacing an outdated bus facility and ensure Muni has the proper tools to make the best business decisions. I will continue to fight for infrastructure investments that create jobs, increase transportation options, reduce road congestion, lower our dependence on foreign oil, and protect our planet."
Background:
The Federal Transit Administration awarded two grants to the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (Muni):
- $35 million to replace the outdated Kirkland Division motor coach facility near Fisherman's Wharf with the new Islais Creek Motor Coach Operations and Maintenance Facility in the Bayview. The funds will complete the second phase of the project, constructing a Maintenance and Operations Building that will increase maintenance capacity, allow for alternative-fuel bus servicing, and develop the waterfront area - including shoreline improvements.
- $8.8 million for the development of a transportation asset management system, which will create an integrated system to inventory all of Muni's major assets. This comprehensive system will store data on age, condition, and needs of different asset types, and allow for a comprehensive assessment and projection of Muni's capital improvement needs.
