Pelosi Remarks Before Economic Forum This Morning
WASHINGTON, May 4 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Speaker Nancy Pelosi, gave brief remarks at a photo opportunity this morning prior to an economic forum she is hosting in the Speaker's Office. The forum, which convenes national experts on economic and financial issues, is addressing the state of America's economy, focusing specifically on the creation of jobs. Below is a transcript of the Speaker's remarks:
Speaker Pelosi. I want to thank you all for coming by this morning. We have a very important meeting with our economists and leaders in the business community. We will talk about where we go, where the economy is going from here, and what we will do, with the focus on jobs and deficit reduction, on Wall Street reform, and again, of course, to see what the indicators are telling us about choices we need to make.
Before we hear from them though, I want to acknowledge the great work of the New York Police Department, Connecticut Police Department, the brave businessmen, entrepreneurs on the street there who were suspicious. An ever alert populous is one of our great defenses. The Obama Administration and many of its manifestations, the FBI particularly, took the lead on much of this. And I am so pleased that the suspect was arrested overnight. We want to congratulate all of them, and we will be acknowledging them on the floor of the House that our first responsibility to the American people is to keep them safe. We take an oath of office to do just that, and this happened very quickly. And we are very pleased.
Q: Madam Speaker, the other story in the news would be the oil spill. Do you have any reluctance now to…
Speaker Pelosi. We will be talking about any and all subjects at our news conference in a little bit, but right now we are greatly eager to hear from our, as I've said, economists, intellectuals, people who can measure success of what we have done, make suggestions for where we go from here. It is all about a four letter word: jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs. We are all about jobs, and we will talk to you about that in a few hours.
Thank you.
