Pelosi Applauds Passage of Two Key Bills to Cut Wasteful Spending and Restore Fiscal Responsibility
WASHINGTON, April 28 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement hailing House passage of the bipartisan IMPROVE Acquisition Act, which will save taxpayers $27 billion a year, and the Improper Payments Elimination and Recovery Act:
"Today, the House took two critical steps forward to save U.S. taxpayers tens of billions of dollars and to crack down on waste, fraud, and abuse in government spending. Democrats are building on our commitment to restore fiscal responsibility and accountability after years of mismanagement by the Bush Administration.
"The IMPROVE Acquisition Act cleans up wasteful defense acquisition spending, saving Americans about $27 billion and ensuring that our men and women who are risking their lives to protect our country get the proper equipment they need – and that they receive it sooner.
"The Improper Payments Elimination and Recovery Act will help identify, reduce and eliminate improper payments by federal agencies to individuals, contractors, and organizations – increasing transparency and improving oversight of federal spending.
"Today, the House voted to protect Americans' hard-earned tax dollars. I urge the Senate to pass these bills and send them to the President's desk as soon as possible."
