Peli Peli Hosts Private Dinner for Star Of Hope Mission
Peli Peli closes new Galleria venue for one night to host special evening for Star of Hope clients
HOUSTON, June 2, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- In addition to Peli Peli's mission to provide a memorable dining experience for each of its guests, the South African restaurant strives to set an example by giving back to their community. With that in mind, on Monday, June 15, Peli Peli owners, management and staff, along with their customer volunteers and a handful of celebrity servers, will close the Galleria restaurant to the public to host a special evening for 150 Star of Hope Mission residents and staff. Established in 1907, Star of Hope is a Christ-centered organization dedicated to meeting the needs of homeless men, women and their children through programs focused on spiritual growth, education, employment, life management and recovery from substance abuse.

During the "Starry Night" event, guests will enjoy a three-course South African meal in Peli Peli's enchanting main dining room beneath a glowing, color-changing metal canopy that imitates a South African sunset. Prior to their meal, Star of Hope guests will be treated to complimentary pampering by makeup artists to look and feel their best for the night out. Upon arrival at Peli Peli in the Galleria, patrons will receive star treatment, complete with a red carpet entrance, professional photo opportunities, and a "mocktail hour" with passed small bites.
"We want to give back to the community, in Houston and beyond," says Thomas Nguyen, chief marketing officer and co-owner. "We've been amazed by the overflow of support and interest from our patrons to get involved in what we're doing to help those less fortunate." Earlier this year, Peli Peli announced a year-round service initiative. The restaurant is committed to hosting four major service events each year that, with the help of their staff and guests, will create unique and positive experiences for those less fortunate. Most recently the restaurant raised $10,000 for the Nicaragua-based ORPHANetwork at their second annual golf classic and hosted a South African culinary carnival for The Sunshine Kids (dedicated to children with cancer).
"We are thrilled and honored that the management, staff and customers of Peli Peli are reaching out to the homeless in Houston through Star of Hope. This unselfish act creates an opportunity for over one hundred men and women to share an experience that they may never otherwise have," says Scott Arthur, Star of Hope's director of public relations. "The Starry Night will be filled with love and hope."
Peli Peli hopes their efforts will be contagious throughout the Houston community. "Our vision is to create a small ripple that encourages other establishments to do the same," says Michael Tran, co-owner and CEO. "We hope to lift people up with the talents and blessings that we've been provided." In that vein, the restaurant is working with Mayor Annise Parker who has proclaimed June, 15 as "Table Service Day," a movement created to inspire other establishments to give an evening of business to serve a nonprofit organization alongside their patrons and staff.
