SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 5, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- PeerWell, whose mobile PreHab technology helps patients prepare for surgery, has announced the launch of an extension of its platform to assist patients through post-operative recovery. PeerWell's platform now starts with PreHab to prepare patients for surgery and continues with ReHab to enable patients to recover from surgery. PeerWell's PreHab-to-ReHab solution will first roll out for patients undergoing joint replacement surgery for the hip or knee.
PeerWell collaborated with retired NFL star running back Arian Foster and Detroit Lions pro-bowl safety Glover Quin to develop ReHab. "50 million people have surgery every year and I've had 14 surgeries over my life," said Foster. "The most important part of every rehab process I've been through was regaining my range of motion -- my doctors were constantly assessing my motion to see if my recovery was on track."
But elite athletes have incredible advantages over everyday patients. "In the NFL we get access to millions of dollars worth of training equipment and the best medical care," explained Quin. "Our goal is to work with PeerWell to level the playing field for everyone."
PeerWell's mobile ReHab platform helps patients manage pain, identify post-operative red flags, learn how to perform daily tasks safely, and get optimal nutrition for healing.
Additionally, Foster and Quin's emphasis on the importance of movement led the PeerWell team to build new-to-medicine technology into its ReHab platform. For the first time, patients using PeerWell will be able to track their range of motion using their smartphone alone - no cameras or extra devices required.
"Some companies offer tele-rehab services using camera set-ups and other complicated devices to assess range of motion. We're the first company to measure range of motion using a smartphone only," said Manish Shah, CEO of PeerWell. "Patients will be able to use our technology to complete physical therapy exercises anywhere and track their progress. Our ability to track complex motion straight from the smartphone will do for rehab what the integration of the camera into the phone did for photography."
"Using PeerWell, high end care, usually reserved for pro-athletes, is available to the everyday patient to help them recover successfully from the comfort of their home," said Foster.
PeerWell's ReHab platform will be available in January of 2017. To find out more, please visit: https://www.peerwell.co/rehab.
