Peapod Provides Free Thanksgiving Day Meals to 20 Chicago Fire Houses
PEAPOD ALSO HELPS FIRE HOUSES DELIVER A THANKSGIVING MEAL TO FAMILIES IN NEED
SKOKIE, Ill., Nov. 19, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- In the spirit of Thanksgiving, Peapod, the nation's leading internet grocer, will give away $6000 worth of holiday dinners to Chicago fire fighters. Working with the Chicago Fire Fighters Union, Peapod will donate these Thanksgiving Day meals to 20 fire houses ($250 per house), each of which will be given an additional $50 to purchase a holiday dinner for a family in need.
"We know how hard our local fire fighters work, and we just want to say thank-you for a job well done," said Scott DeGraeve, Peapod's general manager. "We also know that fire fighters have first-hand knowledge of families who have suffered losses and aren't in a position to prepare a holiday feast this year. By delivering a fully cooked Thanksgiving meal to these families, the fire fighters have a chance to take the spirit of giving one step further."
Families selected by the fire houses will receive Peapod's heat-and-serve Holiday Turkey Breast Dinner, a complete Thanksgiving feast for 4 to 6 people ($45.99). The Holiday Turkey Dinner includes an Oven-Baked Turkey Breast, Wildfire Classic Stuffing, Wildfire Red Skinned Mashed Potatoes, Green Bean Almondine with Roasted Shallots, Homemade Turkey Gravy, Cranberry Relish, Kings Hawaiian Dinner Rolls and Homemade Pumpkin Pie.
"Chicago Fire Fighters Union, Local 2 is proud to partner with Peapod in this holiday endeavor," said Tim O'Brien, director of public relations for the Chicago's Fire Fighters Union. "Chicago Fire Fighters Union witnesses on a daily basis the negative effects this economy has had on the citizens and will proudly find families in need and deliver the Thanksgiving feast to them. We would once again like to thank Peapod for their generosity to the fire fighters of Chicago and communities that we both serve."
