PeaceJam Announces the Billion Acts Heroes who are Changing the World
The PeaceJam Foundation announces this year's Billion Acts Hero Award semifinalists, and the Billion Acts Campaign and its Co-Founders nomination for the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize
NEW YORK, April 18, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- While many of us are waiting for someone else to change the world, this year's Billion Acts semifinalists decided to take this task on themselves. With projects spanning 10 countries, these Heroes are helping combat poverty, racism, slavery, and the mistreatment of indigenous peoples. They are empowering women in conflict zones, supporting Veterans, and taking on bullying, racism, and hate speech. Several young Heroes have created technologies to clean our oceans and dismantle landmines; others are planting billions of trees around the world.
Every Hero has dedicated themselves to solving a pressing problem -- tackling one of the toughest issues facing humanity today.
The 2017 Hero Award semifinalists include:
Best Business Act: Riot Games, The Ocean Clean Up Project
Best NGO Act: Bead for Life, Foundation for International Democracy
Best University Act: University of Oregon, Curtin University
Best Up and Coming Peace Maker: Wheels of Hope Rising, YWISE
Best Community Act: Veterans Community Project, Ruta Pacifica
Best Youth Act: Plant for the Planet, Aerobotics 7
The One Billion Acts of Peace campaign and its Co-Founders, Dawn Engle and Ivan Suvanjieff, are nominees for the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize. Google is the Lead Donor and Tech Developer for this campaign.
