PDE Congratulates USDE Green Ribbon Schools Honorees
HARRISBURG, Pa., May 8, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Secretary of Education Pedro A. Rivera today congratulated Coeburn Elementary School in Brookhaven and The School District of Philadelphia on being named Green Ribbon Schools Honorees by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE).
"It is quite an honor to be recognized as a Green Ribbon School, and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is proud to count two local education agencies among the distinguished honorees," Rivera said. "By reducing our impact on the environment and promoting health and wellness within our schools and communities, we are leaving a better world for the next generation. Coeburn Elementary and The School District of Philadelphia are serving as leaders in good environmental stewardship."
The ED-GRS program recognizes schools, districts and institutions of higher education based on their efforts to reduce environmental impact and costs; to improve health and wellness of schools, students and staff; and to provide environmental education, including STEM, civics, and green career pathways.
This year, USDE has honored 45 schools, nine districts, and nine postsecondary institutions across the country for their efforts.
The Green Ribbon Schools recognition ceremony will be held on July 19 in Washington, D.C. More information about the honorees can be found here.
